Q: What do I need to set up my own Mare Camera?

A: You need a camera and some type of internet connection. 

Q: What's the difference between a net cam and a web cam?

A:  A net cam can be accessed directly from the internet.  A web cam has to have  PC connected to it to upload the image to a web server.

Q: What kind of camera do I need?

A:  I you have a network connection, a net cam works best.  If you have an extra PC, to connect a web cam to that will work fine. 

Q: How far will a wireless system reach?

A:  It depends on the building, obstacles between transmitter and receiver (trees/hills) a good range is 100 ft.  for inexpensive systems, 300-700 ft for moderately priced systems, and 700-1500 ft for top of the line systems. 

Q:  What is the temperature range for a camera in the barn?

A:  It depends on the camera, some require temperatures above 30, but ours has worked at temperatures below zero. 

Q: Do you need wiring from the barn to the house?

A: No, wireless systems will eliminate the need for wiring, but with an extra cost. 

Q: Which camera system is the most reliable?

A:  A network cam, because it doesn't require a PC.  PC's will sometime hang, or quit sending pictures to the site, so we prefer the network cam.
